The existing dissertation on "Study of the Cultural Center of Katerini and proposals for its transformation into a smart building" deals with the concepts of "smart building", "green energy" as well as services, infrastructure and general proposals which through of the Municipality of Katerini can be carried out with the aim of improving the quality of life of citizens and the protection of the environment. The introduction of the work presents the previous construction concept, the importance of turning the existing buildings into "smart buildings" as well as the general characteristics that define a "smart" building. The first chapter lists the interpretation of the term Cultural Center, the purpose of its existence as well as the explanation of the term of conversion of a building. The above data provide the basis for understanding the operation of the Cultural Center of Katerini. The second chapter presents in more detail the history of the Cultural Center of Katerini as well as the initial interventions it underwent. Then the areas of the building, its plans as well as its advantages and disadvantages are listed. The third chapter presents the analysis of the term "smart building" and the benefits of its existence. Then the functions and services that can be performed are analyzed. Some characteristic functions are the "smart" lighting and water metering systems, the creation of access infrastructure to the building as well as the use of the library by people with disabilities, the existence of a free access network, etc. The fourth chapter presents the concept of environmental protection, "green energy" and "green building". Also, some services and interventions that can be carried out at the Cultural Center of Katerini are analyzed, such as the reinforcement of thermal insulation, the existence of charging stations for electric cars, solar stations for charging mobile devices, etc. The fifth chapter presents a) the research conducted for the Cultural Center of Katerini, the "smart buildings" and the proposals for conversion into one, b) the results of the collected data which after analysis led to diagrams and tables Finally, the sixth chapter presents the conclusions of the work which are based on the results of the research and presents some proposals for the improvement of the services and infrastructure of the Cultural Center of Katerini with the aim of better quality of life of citizens and protection of the environment.
