The work motive on which the motivation in the job environment is based as well as the satisfaction from the job is the primary determinant of the performance for both the private and the public sector and for this reason it has occupied the studies of the organizations for many years. Especially in the public sector, where incentives are usually more selfless, it is very important to research and analyze them. The purpose of this study is to identify and interpret the practices that motivate public sector employees as well as the factors that contribute to job satisfaction by studying the case of employees in two Health Centers in Greece. The research data were collected through two questionnaires, one on motivation and the other on job satisfaction, and were analyzed by both descriptive statistics and statistical analysis using SPSS. The results showed that the importance of work, relationships in the work environment and financial earnings are important motivators. In terms of job satisfaction, factors such as salary, the job itself, management, relationships with colleagues and prospects for promotion were found to add to it.
