The present study was elaborated on the framework of the postgraduate program Organization and Administration of Educational Units of the International University of Greece with a focus specifically on digital technologies. With a central focus on personal data and their security, the General Regulation of Personal Data for the academic educational institutions of the country was studied through the prism of its functions and implementation. In the first introductory part, emphasis was placed on the Regulation and the basic concepts that govern it, such as privacy. The legal and regulatory framework of the Regulation was analyzed, reference was made to the regulatory authority, as well as to the basic changes it has brought. The approach then turned to academic institutions based on current conditions, but also their transition to distance education and the policies implemented. Reference was made to the functions and basic obligations of the Data Protection Officer, which must follow. Finally, there was an extensive reference to the compliance plan of the institution and at the same time to the organizational and technical measures that the institutions can implement, in order to achieve compliance and good practices were proposed with the ultimate goal of their implementation. The second part followed the methodology of qualitative research with the process of interviews in the individual departments from the administrative to the teaching staff including the secretariat, the directorates and the departments where the students study. The questions were aimed at recording the importance of the Regulation from its initial implementation until today, to emphasize the observance of its functions and respectively in cases of personal data breach, but also to investigate whether its compliance plan is followed in practice by the institution and whether the staff has received appropriate training. In conclusion, proposals listed in the last part can be a guideline, which is considered necessary for the completion of this study.
