Types of parenting style refer to the strategies that parents use to educate their children. These types of parenting style determine the climate on which the parent-child relationship is based and have been shown to have a significant effect on children's psychosocial development. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the parental style is associated with the occurrence of social anxiety in primary school students. For the purpose of the survey, a quantitative survey was conducted using an appropriate questionnaire. At total 107 elementary school students (of fifth and sixth grade) participated in the research. The Interaction Anxiousness Scale was used to assess social anxiety while the Parenting Styles & Dimensions Questionnaire was used to assess the parenting style. The results of the research showed that the predominant parental style is the authoritative type while the students showed a moderate level of social anxiety. From the analysis of the correlation between the parental styles and social anxiety, it was observed that the authoritative type is associated with a reduced risk of social anxiety while the authoritarian and permissive type is associated with an increased risk of social anxiety. These results indicate that parents should adopt authoritative parenting strategies in order to reduce their children's risk of developing social anxiety.
