For the last five decades there have been major trends and development expertise in the field of tourism and sport along. These two sectors have evolved to the most profitable industries in the global economic scene. Around the same time began to make use of the term sport tourism in order to describe the special form of tourism that combines the sport. The Sports tourism is a modern phenomenon, as only recently begun to be treated as part of tourism and sports industry. The Sports tourism is a special form of quality tourism which gives the opportunity to invest in a huge market potential but also a value-added success in the tourism product through development, diversification and upgrading. The important geographical position of Greece, the great state of the art stages that created because of the Olympic Games, coupled with very good weather conditions and high levels of hospitality, making it an ideal destination to rest, relaxation and proper preparation of athletes. In this work an extensive presentation of the concepts of leisure and economic value. Moreover defined sports tourism and the forms and distinctions, and models of sports tourism. It discusses the contribution of international sporting events in the development of sports tourism and the impact on the hotel and industrial employment and the economy generally. The most important part of work addresses issues and ways of development of sports tourism in Greece, the need for international cooperation for this purpose and the urgent need for strategic development. Finally, the present value of being a European sport policy on this issue
