Επιπτώσεις της κρίσης υγείας του COVID-19 στον Ελληνικό Τουρισμό. Προτάσεις ανάκαμψης και προοπτικές (Master thesis)

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to highlight the management of crises as a necessary element of tourism and to investigate the management and effects of the Sars CoV-2 crisis on Greek tourism and the tourism business operating in it. The quality of services is changing and now a technocratic approach is needed in this area of crises so that the Greek product is always forged against unexpected events.
Methodology: To achieve the purpose and objectives of this paper, a literature review of the crises that affect tourism and of crisis management was carried out. The Definitions, types, stages, and common features of crises are conceptually approached and then crisis management models are presented with the factors, strategy and communication that compose a crisis management plan. In conjunction with the literature and the necessary measures taken, a health crisis management plan of a hotel unit is presented. Quantitative research was conducted with qualitative data for the period 14.04.2020 to 14.05.2020. The study was conducted through online questionnaires and the sample consists of 208 people employed in the tourism sector.
Findings: The main results of the research show that the CoVid-19 health crisis has significantly affected tourism businesses, especially their revenues and operations. The impact on human resources is also negative, although the measures taken by the government were considered satisfactory by most respondents. The biggest impact is considered to be the lack of liquidity and the uncertainty of partnerships. The majority of responses exhibit that the recovery period will be longer than 12 months and that it is necessary to adjust all business objectives. Marketing has been particularly helpful during the health crisis for tourism businesses.
Originality / Value / Suggestions: One of the most important contributions of this study is to highlight the main points of the health crisis of Sars-CoV-2 in Greek tourism. To underline crisis management as a necessary quality part of tourism as well highlighting a health crisis management plan in a hotel tourism business.
