The food ingredients of the pigs can be a means of dispersing the African Swine virus, thus creating an outbreak of cases in areas that were negative to the virus and were sufficiently far from already reported cases. For this reason, pig nutrition is an important element in the study of the spread of the virus in an economy where the movement of feed is an integral part of pig farming and generally of agricultural production.

Τα συστατικά της διατροφής των χοίρων μπορούν να αποτελέσουν μέσο διασποράς του ιού της Αφρικανικής Πανώλης, δημιουργώντας με τον τρόπο αυτό έξαρση κρουσμάτων σε περιοχές που ήταν αρνητικές στον ιό και βρισκόταν αρκετά μακριά από ήδη δηλωμένα κρούσματα. Για το λόγο αυτό η διατροφή των χοίρων αποτελεί ένα σημαντικό στοιχείο μελέτης της εξάπλωσης του ιού, σε μία οικονομία που η διακίνηση των ζωοτροφών αποτελεί αναπόσπαστο κομμάτι της χοιροτροφίας και γενικά της αγροτικής παραγωγής.
