The present study was carried out in order to complete the postgraduate programme in Paediatric Physiotherapy at the Department of Physiotherapy of the International University of Greece, School of Health Sciences. Apart from the formal reason for which the present thesis was formed, I was given the opportunity to study a topic of paramount importance that concerns both medical and paramedical staff in Greece and the world, Bronchial Asthma in Children. The reference was made, in a general context, to the anatomy of the respiratory system and the specific characteristics of this system. The physiology, lung volumes and capacities as well as the types of breathing were also studied. In the specific context, the historical background of bronchial asthma was mentioned and the risk factors for its occurrence were mentioned. In addition, the prevalence of asthma and its definitions, as well as the resulting comparative epidemiological data were studied. Next, physiotherapeutic approaches for bronchial asthma were reported and physiotherapeutic techniques were studied. The value and role of exercise and the most constructive form of exercise, according to the literature review, for the optimal quality of life of the child were noted. Finally, a survey was carried out with fellow professional physiotherapists who, with their knowledge, expressed their views on bronchial asthma, how much they deal with child patients, what techniques they use, what aids they use, what they would like to improve, how they themselves help the child to overcome asthma attacks, and what they believe is the role of parents in all this.
