C
ystic Fibrosis is an inherited and often li fe threatening disease. There are approximately 70,000
patients worldwide and approximately 1,000 new patients are added each year. Affected individuals
have a significantly shorter life span and great morbidity due to the production of thick secretions in
the respiratory and gastrointestinal system, which lead to in gradual destruction of the organs in
these systems. The strategy followed is individualized for each patient depending on the severity of the mutation and the symptoms they have. Over 1,500 2,000 mutations have been reported to date, with the ΔF508 mutation being the most common. Medicines, respiratory physical therapy, exercise and maintaining a healthy lifestyle seem to have significant effects in managing the symptoms of cystic fibrosis and consequently in improving the daily life of people who are ill. The purpose of the research is to investigate to examine the physical activity of students aged 5 and over, if there is a difference between the frequency of the three types of activities and the gender of the students, if there is a difference between the frequency of the three types of activities and the age of the students and finally if there is a difference between the Body Mass Index and the frequency of the three types of activities (high, moderate, low intensity). The data collection was carried out by administering the Godin questionnaire to the sample. The questionnaire consists of 7 questions. The study population consists of the children monitored in the Cystic Fibrosis laboratory at the Hippocrates hospital, the sample was selected by a combination of convenience sampling and snowball sampling. The total sample of the research amounted to 50 students. Also from the Body Mass Index it emerged that most students had a normal weight, that on average they participate in vigorous exercise 2.42 times a week for 15 minutes, where most students engaged in walking and finally in mild exercise 1.71 times a week for 15 minutes, where most students did walking. Students aged 13 18 years performed mild activities more often than students aged 5 12 years and overweight students performed moderate intensity activities more often than others. While there was no statistically significant difference between the frequency of the three types of activities and the gender of the students.
