The study of women's presence in literature has been researched for decades, with the goal of understanding not only the subjective perspective of the writer but also the everyday lives and psychosynthesis of women throughout history. After the 10th century and approximately 1200, the period of modern Greek literature is broad and -even experts disagree on the precise date- after the 10th century and around 1200. Humanism is still alive and well toward the end of the 18th century: it has not been repudiated or deteriorated into academic forms, but it is still serving an essential socio-educational role. Woman, regarded as a morally stronger human being than man, capable of subduing and persuading him to perpetual enslavement on oath, is more frequently regarded as a morally and physically inadequately personalized object by the other poets. She is shown to others as Holy and untouchable, she has goddess rank and lives casually among Graces, yet she remains an unreachable dream for her lover. Common goods, such as a comb and a mirror, become sacred as well since they were presented to women in person by Aphrodite. These artifacts are regarded lucky as a symbol ofperpetual beauty, and the poet wishes to transform into them in order to remain near to his girlfriend and observe her without being detected. On the other side, it is evident that in a patriarchal culture, women are viewed as objects with no rights, and their function is to marry, produce children, and care for the family. She is unable to educate herself or study, and her only option is to attend social events such as weddings. All of this was before the feminist movement, when women gained rights, became authors, and were able to study. This dissertation tries to illustrate the woman through the perspective of contemporary Greek literature, demonstrating how writers (both male and female) present the feminine world over time.
