The relationship of the operation of a supreme educational foundation and development course of a provincial town

Abstract

In this paper a social research study about the economic and social impacts of the establishment and function of a Higher Educational Institute upon the social life of a town is presented. The purpose of the study was to provide to the administration of the Institute wide and in depth information as to the attitudes of the citizens with regard to the future arrival of students in their town. A survey was conducted to accomplish the above purpose. The statistical analysis indicated that there exists a maximum level of knowledge and certain very positive attitudes of the citizens towards the students’ future arrival, although the citizens are generally characterised of a moderate level in ‘acceptance of others’. The substructure of the town was judged by the citizens to be satisfactory enough in order to welcome the students’ population, with the exception of the substructure that concerns the cultural events. The citizens anticipate positive economic impact either general or specific, as well as either short-term or long-term impact, contributing to the town economic development. In overall they do not expect that important socio-ethical problems might occur. No special interest, concerning the citizens’ intention to engage into business activities motivated by the students’ future arrival, was reported, with the exception of the intention of citizens, who hold lower incomes, to let rooms.

Στην ανακοίνωση αυτή θα προσπαθήσουμε να παρουσιάσουμε τα συμπεράσματα κοινωνικής διερευνητικής μελέτης, η οποία αφορά στις αναπτυξιακές οικονομικά και κοινωνικά επιδράσεις στη ζωή μιας επαρχιακής πόλης από την εγκατάσταση σε αυτήν Τριτοβάθμιου Εκπαιδευτικού Ιδρύματος. Τα αρμόδια για το σχεδιασμό και προγραμματισμό του ιδρύματος όργανα έχουν ανάγκη πολύπλευρης και σε βάθος πληροφόρησης ως προς τις απόψεις και στάσεις των κατοίκων της εν λόγω πόλης. Προς εκπλήρωση του σκοπού αυτού διεξήχθη δημοσκόπηση. Από τη στατιστική ανάλυση των δεδομένων της έρευνας διαπιστώθηκε μέγιστος βαθμός γνώσης και πολύ θετική στάση των κατοίκων απέναντι στη συγκεκριμένη επερχόμενη έλευση φοιτητικού πληθυσμού, αν και αυτοί χαρακτηρίζονται γενικότερα από μέσου επιπέδου ‘αποδοχή των άλλων’. Η υποδομή της πόλης κρίθηκε ικανοποιητική με εξαίρεση την πλευρά της υποδομής θεαμάτων. Οι κάτοικοι προσδοκούν θετικές οικονομικές επιδράσεις από την έλευση των φοιτητών στην πόλη τους, τόσο ευρύτερες, όσο και επί μέρους, άμεσες καθώς και μεσοπρόθεσμα αναπτυξιακές, συνολικά δε, δεν αναμένουν δημιουργία ιδιαίτερων κοινωνικο-ηθικών προβλημάτων. Δε διαπιστώθηκε ιδιαίτερο, προσωπικό ενδιαφέρον για επιχειρηματική δραστηριοποίηση των κατοίκων με ερέθισμα και κίνητρο την προσέλευση και διαβίωση των φοιτητών στην πόλη, με εξαίρεση τους κατόχους χαμηλών εισοδημάτων που θα ήθελαν να προβούν στην ενοικίαση δωματίων στους φοιτητές.
