ABSTRACT The work is based on the need for digital tools based on modern learning theories that can contribute to the abolition of the student-centered teaching system that has been in place for many years in secondary education. This will increase the interest of both students and teachers who are currently feeling depreciation of their efforts in the classroom. As innovative teaching tools, research studies the Social Networks that have penetrated today in every field of everyday life, especially of the young people. A more typical example of Social Media is Facebook, the educational capabilities of which can be used by teachers and students. The work focuses on the bibliography referenced in the Social Media and particularly on Facebook with emphasis on secondary education. An essential complement to the work was to conduct an empirical study of Greek reality, taking into account corresponding surveys at schools abroad. The research was carried out in high schools and junior high schools in the city of Trikala and by examining the results of the first attempts made at the initiative of a few teachers, verifies the theoretical and empirical studies of the literature concluding that the integration of Social Media in secondary school education has satisfactory results. For the acceptance and widespread use of Social Media , it requires effort from teachers, support from the school unit and from education providers to provide teachers with technical and pedagogical knowledge so that school makes the necessary leap towards the digital time. First of all, scientific research is needed in the field of introducing web applications and especially of Social Media in the school environment, since it is almost non-existent for the Greek reality.
