In this paper, the MOODLE Learning Management System is being examined and evaluated, as it was used by trainees as a basic training tool, during the Postgraduate Courses Programme, in the Administration of Educational Units, at the Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki. This specific postgraduate programme was realized with the blended learning model, combining the direct and distance learning, while applying the synchronous and asynchronous distance education. Regarding the structure of the paper, the first chapter refers, to some definitions, in order to clarify the terms which are often encountered in new training methods and practices related to the new technologies, the educational technology, the information and communication technologies (or ICTs) and e-learning. In the second chapter, we shall deal, more extensively, with the integration, purpose and pedagogical utilization of the ICTs within the educational process, as well as their introduction to the Greek education. In addition, we shall refer to the modern Learning Information Systems for the support, storage and management of learning and the purpose they were developed for, we shall describe the Information Systems in general and focus on the eLearning platforms and, more specifically, on the Moodle platform. What follows in the third chapter is a literature review with empirical studies and researches on the electronic systems about distance learning and e-learning. In addition, what is developed is the methodology to be followed, which includes our research at the Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki, where we shall work by using a mixed questionnaire, in order to examine the students’ perceptions attitudes, opinions and feelings in terms of effectiveness, relevance and user-friendliness of the educational web environment. More specifically, we shall focus on structure, utility, ease of use – learning, as well as on the academic and learning dimension. We shall also look at how educational technology is used in this specific case and how a number of different tools that support collaboration, communication and interaction can establish learning, either in a complementary, corrective or apocalyptic manner. Thence, a description shall be made, the processed data shall be presented and we shall comment on the results and problems of our research. Finally, the paper is reaching completion with the conclusions and some suggestions and guidelines for a future research, with the ultimate goal of helping the information system designers, teachers, students and researchers to obtain important information and guidance, in order for the quality of e-learning to be improved.
