The object of the present thesis is a thorough study concerning the democratic character of the University Institute. A certain amount of attention is drawn upon the University Institutional Structure, the democratic principles, and the roles of Administrative Bodies. This essay aims at: a) discovering the principles that university is structured upon b) analyzing the institutions as well as the roles of Administrative Bodies that promote democratic principles such as freedom, justice and impartiality in decision making and c) describing the reality and atmosphere in universities nowadays. What is also under scrutiny are the separate roles of the Administrative Bodies, whether they are actually free as individuals to make decisions or have a say with regards to the distribution of economic resources and finances. Is it true that Greek higher educational institutes run in full autonomy? A major part of this project includes basic data taken from a closed structured questionnaire filled in by 100 members of the academic community, Educational Research staff, Special Technic Laboratory staff, Special Educational staff and administration employees. Their views and opinions are expected to shed light, upon the issues under study, as described in chapter 1.6 concerning the democratic principles put in effect, and the process of decision making. Furthermore, these data reflect their views on the so called asylum in university campuses, the restrictions of this institution as well as the participation of students in decision making within campus premises. Should it be up to the Institutes to decide the qualitative traits of faculties and the number of students admitted? Should higher educational institutes be financed exclusively by the state government? Finally, the findings of the survey are being analyzed through the quantitative research method, resulting in suggestions and outcomes of great importance, concerning the present situation of higher educational institutes and the issues above mentioned which are put to question
