Conflicts in the school environment are a common situation but must be tackled effectively so that the education system functions harmoniously and achieves its educational and social role. This paper will address the issue of conflict within school units. More specifically, the work is structured on two levels, one theoretical and one empirical. The theoretical determines the concept of conflict, its nature and its species, its causes and consequences, as well as the way of its management. Subsequently, the theoretical part of the thesis explores the traditional and contemporary perceptions about conflicts, the greek legal framework for dealing with them, the prevailing trends at international level and finally the phenomenon of conflicts as it takes place within the greek educational reality. The empirical part of the paper provides the necessary data for the case study, the methodological framework of the survey, the sample and the research process, and then presents the results of the research, the conclusions and the proposals for future prospects.
