In many societies of today’s world, running has become more popular than ever and as a result of this movement a number of relevant needs are emerging. Thus, despite the many unquestionable benefits of sports, the above mentioned spreading is accompanied by hasty and erroneous choices, mainly due to the runners’ lack of basic and very important knowledge of various issues related to their training. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the use and effectiveness of orthotic insoles amongst endurance runners, as well as the incidence of injuries, as related to different parameters. Data was collected via a specifically designed internet-based questionnaire, with the use of “Google Forms”, which was subsequently distributed online via electronic newspapers and internet websites. 144 questionnaires were completed and the collected data suggests that the method of orthotics manufacturing, the presence of anatomical anomalies of the runner’s foot, the gradual introduction of use of the orthotic device as well as the type of runner’s shoe all play an important role in the occurrence or limitation of running related injuries.
