Delgado et al. (1999) used the term «Revolution of Livestock» to describe the rapid growth of the livestock sector in response to increased demand for food of animal origin, which he said «have profound effects on human health, livelihood and environment». Given the direct bound between animal nutrition and safety of food of animal origin, it is important that the preparation and distribution of animal feed be regarded as an integral part of the food chain. Animal feed manufacture should therefore be subjected, in the same way as food production to ensure the quality of the integrated food safety system. Animal feed may take the form of primary feed materials, compound feed, feed additives and premixes. The pursuit of a high level of human health protection and animal health is one of the fundamental principles of the European legislation targets which set out the general principles and requirements of food, as well as procedures in matters of food safety, featuring compound animal feed as important part in the beginning of the food chain. The main target of the preparation of compound animal feed is to achieve maximum production with minimum waste of nutrients and at the lowest possible cost. The tight cooperation between the institutions of the livestock sector about design, production and introduction of good practices manuals of best practices for the processing of feed materials, is essential for the production and sale of compound animal feed and generally for copping critical safety problems.
