Τhe aim of this study was to identify the level and the sources of occupational stress and burnout (occupational anxiety) of secondary school teachers. In particular it was investigated, the relationship between gender and educational experience with the sources of occupational stress and professional burnout as well as the relationship between τthe sources of professional stress and job burnout.. The survey involved 201 secondary school teachers from all the levels of the education of the Prefecture of Halkidiki. The survey was conducted in the first half of December 2018 using a closed questionnaire of 75 questions divided into three categories: demographics, sources of job stress, job burnout. The results of the survey showed that teachers are experiencing a lot of stress. Women teachers are more stressed than men, as well as those with few years of educational experience. The main sources of stress were the economic crisis, the lack of interest and motivation from the students, the inadequate remuneration, the inappropriate placement of detached, deputy teachers, etc., as well as the lack of support by experts in management of school problems (eg school psychologist). In terms of professional burnout, teachers have low levels of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization and high levels of reduced personal achievement. There were not many correlations between sex and professional burnout, but women were found to have a higher rate of mental exhaustion. Teachers with few years of service experience greater emotional exhaustion and reduced personal attainment. There have been many correlations between sources of occupational stress and emotional exhaustion and depersonalization.
