With the continued removal of children from nature and the natural environment, it is more than ever necessary to develop environmental friendly behaviors (Papadonikolakis, 2018).
This master's thesis attempts to present and explain the shape, role and function of the school garden and through scientific targeting, analysis and exploration to
highlight its importance as an innovative educational tool for raising pupils' awareness
in protection of the natural environment.
According to Williams, Panagiotidou (2013), "It is impossible for a child
working in the garden not to co-ordinate with certain laws, stirring the soil tirelessly
to leave the air and the air , nature, sinking secretly, deep into his heart ".
The work is done on five subject areas. The first thematic section analyzes and
incorporates innovation in education and includes an iterative review. The course of
good educational practices on environmental issues is also presented. The second
thematic section presents the transition of school gardens, from rural areas to urban
areas, the historical presentation and reflection of gardens in schools. The Third Thematic Unit studies the school gardens as innovative educational tools in education in
various states and across Greece. The fourth thematic section of the paper presents the
researcher's perceptual outline, research methodology and data analysis method. Finally, the fifth thematic section presents the research results.
This qualitative work concludes with conclusions and discussion on the pedagogical and educational significance of the school garden as an innovative tool for
sensitizing students to environmental issues at a time of constant change and evolving.
In the last part there are suggestions for the use of school gardens in schools and
school environments. School gardens are ideal spaces for students to ask and answer
on multifactoral issues of many sciences (Graves, Hughes, and Balgopal, 2016).
