The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the provision of education and training in the tourism sector in Greece. It also records the outline of the Greek education system by examining the role of the public and private sector that provides education and training in tourism in Greece as well as its comparison with other countries. Given the importance of the view of the trainees in the tourism sector as to the quality of their education, it was considered interesting to record their views. In the present study a survey was made on the existing bibliography but also on a sample survey with questionnaires. In the survey participated trainees of tourism specialties from public and private schools in Western Greece, with the final sample reaching 160 trainees, who evaluated the provided quality of study of tourism specialties from the educational institutions of the studied geographic area. The findings of the present study concerned the quality of studies, infrastructure, curriculum and teachers. Differentiation was observed among trainees studying in private education institutions in relation to those attending public education. Moreover, the present study examines the degree of satisfaction of students in schools of tourism education as well as the future trends that may affect education and training in the tourism sector in Greece.
