Ο ρόλος της ηγεσίας για την προώθηση, ανάπτυξη και υλοποίηση για την αειφορία σε δημοτικά σχολεία του νομού Δράμας (Master thesis)

The purpose of this study at primary schools in the region of Drama is to investigate the role of school leadership in the appearance of innovative projects focused on sustainability. By this qualitative study there is a try to gain better and deeper understanding of how the members of educational community perceive the concepts of innovation, leadership and sustainability and how they understand their interactions and interconnections. In order to produce the qualitative data, ten private interviews have been conducted with head teachers and teachers of five primary schools (a pair of head teacher and teacher of each school) in the region. The analysis results of data have shown that leadership style of head teacher is extremely important for innovations in the school. His/her personality in combination with characteristics of transformative and distributive leadership that contribute to motivating and provoking teachers’ inner incentives for change seem to lead more likely to innovations in the school he/she works. The answers of the study result in the idea that the ideal and most effective way of leadership includes not only personality characteristics, skills and knowledge, promotion of same goals and vision for the school but also encouragement and freedom to teachers in order to take initiatives, implement innovations and develop positive climate in the organization. The sustainability concept is in accordance with the aforementioned requiring also the existence and adoption of its noticeable philosophy by the educational community.
