The main goal of the present thesis dissertation is to examine the conventional and organic apple cultivation in the area of Pelion in the Prefecture of Magnesia. In the beginning, in the first chapter the geographic area of Pelion is described, including its specific features and topography. In the next chapters, the different varieties of apples are described (chapter 2), the conventional cultivation practises such as the pest management (chapter 3) and the organic cultivation of apples including the corresponding rules (chapter 4). The post harvest methodologies of apples are described in the fifth chapter, whereas the data of the global, the European Union and the Greek production are reported in the sixth chapter. In the same chapter some more precise data regarding the area of Pelion are also reported, as well the problems and perspectives of the apple cultivation. Finally, in the seventh chapter, the conclusion drawn by the present thesis are discussed.
