PURPOSE: This particular thesis was carried out in order to search for information on the knowledge level of the consumers on the nutritional labeling of foods and products, as well as on the labels that the customers can find on the food packaging. METHOD: The research to gather the information needed was accomplished by using anonymous questionnaires that were answered by 800 consumers who were randomly selected. The answers were given from both women and men with a minimum age limit of 18 years. After the data’s collection from the questionnaires, the statistical analysis took place. The final result was to drawn the conclusions from which this project was based. RESULTS: The statistical analysis showed that the largest sample was women and the 2/3 of all the participants was located in between the ages of 31-45 (1/3 of them) , 46-60 (the other 1/3). Moreover, women are more caring about paying attention to the food labels by checking them before they make their choice, in contrast to the very low level of men who participated. CONCLUSIONS: The most consumers pay attention to the expiry date, as well as the look, the smell and the taste of the products before they buy them. The key to make their choice, however, seems to be the price of the products. The lack of time available to consumers is an important criterion to avoid reading the labels as well as the misunderstanding of the keywords used at the labels.
