One of the main features of internal combustion engines (MFNs) is the complexity of their construction and the fatigue of friction surfaces rotating internally to produce beneficial work. In order to combat these stresses due to friction, it is necessary to have the lubrication system. In particular, the purpose of the lubrication system is to lubricate the friction surfaces for long-term protection. The oil is supplied to the inside of the engine by spraying from special injectors inside it, and then the excess oil is collected in the oil sump at the bottom of the engine. The basic components of the lubrication system are as follows: - the oil pump, which sucks the oil out of the sump and distributes it to its spraying nozzles and supply pipes, taking up movement from the crankshaft through a chain, - the oil filter, which retains impurities and combustion residues, - the exhaust air recirculation valve which directs the air vapor in the lubricant and the exhaust gas entering the sump when the pressure exceeds a certain limit, - the engine oil filler plug in the head, - the oil level indicator, - the oil pressure gauge on the car dial (when present), - and the oil cooler (when available). Finally, it should be stressed that the lubrication system also functions as a secondary cooling system for the engine, because in addition to lubrication, it offers in-field cooling to the friction surfaces of the engine, thus reducing its temperature.
