In Greek education system, for over 35 years, and specifically since the institution of inspection was abolished, there is no system of evaluation in education. It is true that many attempts have been made, since several laws have been passed from time to time, but they have never been enforced. The institution of self-assessment of the school unit applied mandatory for the first time in the school year 2013-2014, amid great reactions. Even today, there is a corresponding law, but it is inactive. Self-assessment is a system that helps school-related individuals to develop activities, shape the school culture, judge the results of their work, draw conclusions, which will help them feed back into organizing their next steps, and, ultimately, to upgrade the quality of education. In this paper, there has been an attempt to explore the views of Primary Education teachers in the Prefecture of Evia, on the school self-assessment, conclusions were drafted and suggestions were made, which if adopted, they can contribute to shaping a more positive attitude towards self-assessment by teachers. As emerged from the research findings of the paper, teachers feel that self-assessment is not necessary in this form, but they would agree to its application if it met certain conditions. What is particularly highlighted by teachers is the need for an evaluation system that is transparent, credible and objective. Teachers mistrust the intentions of the Ministry of Education, believing that its real goals are other. This skepticism is due to the lack of dialogue between teachers' representatives and the Ministry. For this reason, measures are proposed, which through their implementation, will strengthen the improving side of the evaluation and lead to dialogue in order to co-ordinate an evaluation framework.
