Αξιολόγηση, μέσω web εφαρμογής, του βαθμού κατανόησης της διδασκαλίας σε πραγματικό χρόνο (Master thesis)

In an era of rapid technological developments, strengthening of teaching methods is required. This can be achieved with the integration of new information and communication technologies in the educational process and the replacement of traditional educational learning methods with new models of teaching practices. It is a necessity for teachers to broaden their professional horizons by incorporating interactive, collaborative and flexible technological tools in their teaching (or “in the teaching process”) that should respond and will be adapted to the dynamic learning environments. It is of great importance that teachers ought to know the level of understanding amongst their students at any given time in order to modify and adapt their teaching techniques and to strengthen and improve the learning process. Additionally, the finding of appropriate teaching methods should ensure at the active involvement of all students in the learning process, thus giving the opportunity even to those who are hesitant, to raise their hand and overcome their shyness, express their opinion and ask questions without the fear of bullying. The use of technology can help eliminate all these inhibitory factors that deprive students of equal opportunities in class participation. This paper, taking into account that the classroom is a living and diverse organism, presents the development of a Web application that allows the teacher to get instant feedback on the level of understanding of his teaching by receiving his students’ answers directly from their mobile phones to the respective questions which he poses during his teaching. The development of the application was completed following the waterfall model of projects’ implementation. It was implemented locally on a web server with the help of the XAMPP distribution package (Apache, MySQL, PHP) and the interface of the student-teacher applications is carried out using HTML5 and CSS. AJAX technology was used for communication requests through JSON configured messages, while the dynamic presentation of the content is achieved using PHP and MySQL. The research indicates that the Web application strengthens the professional development of the teachers by helping them to have clear perspective of their teaching and be able to make adaptations or improvements to their course whenever it is necessary. At the same time, it contributes to the improvement of the active participation of the students especially when the teaching takes place online.
