The present research explores the attitudes, perceptions and views of health professionals and administrators of the PHILOS II program regarding the health services provided to the refugee and migrant population. Its purpose is to identify the factors that affect the provision of health services to refugees and migrants, their level of influence, as well as the degree of staff’s cultural competence in dealing with intercultural patients.
The quantitative research was conducted in 2020 and the target population is the staff implementing the PHILOS II program. For the purposes of the research, an anonymous, structured questionnaire was created, with closed-ended questions, based on the weighted questionnaires of the INTERHEALTH (2016) surveys, by Prodromos et al. (January 2018), Trigoni et al. (October 4, 2017), by Anastasopoulos (2014), Hadjibyros (2014), Kotsioni (2011), Karakosta (2016), Milionis (2019). A pilot application preceded the reliability test. The primary data collected were analyzed with the statistical package SPSS 23.0. Initially, with the Factor Analysis, the variables were grouped and then the statistical technique of Regression Analysis was applied, using the stepwise method. Health professionals agree that their attitudes, views and perceptions about the provision of health services to the refugee population are generally positive. Three factors emerged that influence the provision of health services: "Beliefs of health professionals and administrators", "Behavior-Practices of health professionals and administrators" and "Skills of health professionals and administrators". Health professionals agree that all three factors have the same effect on health services provided to the refugee population. A model for predicting positive attitudes, perceptions and views for each factor-dimension was adapted.
The positive effects of the innovative health care program PHILOS to the immigrant population was noted. The research contributes to the awareness of the feelings of the employees of the PHILOS program, for the humanitarian work they offer. Its contribution to the state is also important, recognizing the work of the employees and creating the appropriate conditions for the successful implementation of the program.
