Ο ρόλος του/της Διευθυντής/τριας στην ενδυνάμωση του κύρους του σύγχρονου δημόσιου σχολείου στην προοπτική της αποτελεσματικότητας του (Master thesis)

This paper explores the views of Primary and Secondary Education teachers on the role played by the Principal in strengthening the prestige of the modern public school with a view to its effectiveness. At first, a bibliographic review of the theoretical and research approaches to the subject was made. Then, a primary quantitative research is conducted to investigate the views of teachers, asking for their opinion on the extent to which the current school fulfills its educational goals, the characteristics of the effective school, the factors that affect the teacher's effectiveness and to the extent that the Principal is acting in such a way as to strengthen the prestige and effectiveness of the school unit. The sample consists of 157 teachers. The data was processed with the MS Excel program. The survey is conducted in February 2020. The results of the research show that the current school does not fully meet, but performs at an average level the majority of its educational goals. An effective school must achieve its predetermined goals, achieve high educational results and ensure the equal participation of all students without exception. The main factor that affects school efficiency is educational adequacy. To a large extent, school effectiveness is affected by teaching, student expectations, project evaluation, school climate, communication with parents and in general extroversion, leadership, staff, buildings and financial resources. Finally, teachers believe that their principals generally act in the direction of strengthening their school's prestige and effectiveness. The points that can be improved are the promotion of feedback to staff on learning levels, the transmission of the school's vision to the entire school community and the local community, the cooperation with parents and the school's extroversion in general.
