The purpose of this research paper is to explore the views of secondary school principals on quality assurance and evaluation, in order to identify possible relationships or interdependencies with higher education. Quality is a priority issue for European education systems. Despite the complexity of its demarcation, a conceptual approach and presentation of the current situation in the European and Greek educational space is attempted, covering secondary and tertiary education. Evaluation, both internal and external, is the most common approach to improving or monitoring the quality of schools as well as higher education institutions.
The paper presents the basic characteristics of the evaluation of secondary and higher education systems. The quantitative approach using a questionnaire records the views of one hundred and fifteen principals on the benefits of implementing a quality assurance program to the extent that the school focuses on it. The importance of assessment systems is also examined and the correlation with higher education is investigated. The results of the research are analyzed and processed using statistical data analysis programs. Both descriptive and inductive statistics are used. The importance of these variables in secondary education is highlighted, without, however, showing an interdependence with higher education. A characteristic element is the opinion of the participants about the role of the Ministry of Education. Finally, the main conclusions of the research that answer the research questions are presented, the limitations are stated and some suggestions are presented as directions for future research
