Δεληφωτάκη, Αναστασία

Cerebral palsy is characterized as a permanent, but reversible, dysfunction of muscle tone and movement, which is caused by Central Nervous System (CNS) damage. It plays an important role in pediatric neuropathology as it encompasses a wide range of pathological, physical and psychosocial disorders that physiotherapists are called upon to deal with. The purpose of the present study is to present the cerebral palsy in children, the alternative methods used to treat it and their effects. In the first chapter there is a general and medical description of the condition is mentioned. Its definition is given and various issues such as epidemiology, diagnosis, etiology, forms of presentation and associated disorders are studied. The second and third chapters outline the alternative physiotherapeutic approaches used to treat cerebral palsy in children. In fact, there is extensive reference to the use of Hippotherapy and Hydrotherapy, while the techniques and methods of each method are presented in detail. At the end of each chapter, detailed research is presented to confirm the effectiveness of these holistic therapies and their beneficial effects in many cases of children with cerebral palsy.
