The present dissertation derives from the researcher`s urge to approach the chronic issue of the ordinance of substitutes and hourly employees, that concerns and affects a large number of teachers. The researcher had also served for many years in various parts of Greece before she started to work permanently. So, she is able to perceive the feelings, concerns, difficulties of colleagues working as substitutes, as well as the contradiction that exists in a perpetual problem. On the one hand, there is much to be said and written about the difficulties they face, and on the other hand thousands of substitutes continue to accept this employment status every year. So, the aim was the ordinance of substitutes as a kind of employment status that has the characteristics of flexible forms of work to be investigated. On the other hand, the impact of flexible forms of work on both -professional and personal life- should be clarified, and the continuity should be studied under the present circumstances. After the bibliographic review about the concept of work and the implementation of flexibility in employment relations, the concept of job satisfaction and the factors that secure it and the expectations of long-time working substitutes, a qualitative research was conducted, based on data from interviews with substitutes and hourly working teachers. The findings of the research show that insecurity and uncertainty, also the inability of any programming affect teachers in a variety of ways, which refutes the claims of those who foresee flexible working relationships as something positive. Despite the current discontent, however, the inability (?), the reluctance (?) for other alternatives traps the substitutes in this employment status hoping that someday they will be permanent
