In recent years, mentoring is been applied to a vast range of human endeavours, including business administration. Mentoring is a process ofguidance,counselling, and support at the personal, professional, and psychosocial levels provided by professional managers with experience in particular fields of work to less experienced and trained managers. The concept and practice of mentoring have developed over time in various cultures and are now seen as the secret to success in both personal and professional growth. Because of this, consulting programs have been created and put into practice in businesses and educational institutions. The long-term process of creating and defining future responsibilities, including the ideas of leadership and direction, is referred to as mentoring. Opportunities for more extensive personal development and progress are offered, along with feedback. In this dissertation, the effect of mentorship on the growth of agri-food businesses in Western Macedonia is examined. The history of the term "mentoring" is first examined, after which the characteristics of the mentor are analysed, the types of counselling such as informal, formal, collaborative, group, self-managed, the functions and roles of the mentor, the counsellor’s life stages, the significance of counselling, the advantages as well as the disadvantages of mentoring and the variables affecting counselling are presented.
