The topic of our diploma thesis concerns the process of check-in to airline companies, the historical retrospective objectives and its evolution. In the first chapter, reference is made to the aviation industry and its development, as well as to the pioneers of aviation, while we emphasize the low-cost airlines and their contribution to the global economy. The International Air Transport Association is remarkable (IATA), including its establishment, purpose and activities. The second chapter analyzes the concept, operation and information of international booking systems (GDSs), including historical retrospection and evolution. In the third chapter is presented the airline reservation system, its types and the appearance of the program "Programmed Airline Reservations System" (PARS), which presents the availability of the flights, but also records the bookings with their immediate readjustment to the availability, having as a result the facilitation of the companies. The fourth chapter describes the importance of departure control systems and their key role in the process of handling an airline company. Subsequently, in the fifth chapter, we focus on the core of our dissertation, describing the procedure being followed by each passenger before and after their booking, his airline ticket, the rules, the types of check-in and the reference of the advantages and disadvantages of one of the most widespread categories, 'online check in', and the main historical retrospective and evolution of airline information, booking systems and reservations. Finally, in the sixth chapter we present the conclusion of our work, which arising from an interview with Marina Vassiliadi, being responsible for the check-in of the airline tickets and boarding procedures, at Thessaloniki Airport "Macedonia"
