This paper explores the opinion of Primary School teachers towards the role of the School Consultants in the light of the changes recently taken place regarding the School consultant institution 35 years after it first got into effect. School consultants, an institution born by the teachers themselves, replaced the school inspectors that had existed in the Greek educational system for over a century. The teachers were relieved and enthusiastically accepted the new institution; they had expected an equal collaborator to consult and guide them in their educational work. Although the great majority of teachers supported the new institution, unfortunately, state responsibilities and various other factors deprived the School Consultants from their primary aspiration. Thus, their role, originally scientific and pedagogic was transformed into a bureaucratic and administrative one; a fact that has also been reflected on the results of the survey. 204 Primary Education teachers of all school subjects belonging to the prefecture of Serres participated in the survey. An evaluated questionnaire (A. Triantafyllou, 2008) was used after being enriched with more open and closed-ended questions. Results were analyzed using SPSS ver.21 software and Pearson’s (Chi-Square) x2.They showed that Primary School teachers are positively oriented towards the consultative –guiding role of the School Consultants. However, they believe there is room for improvement.
