The education system is an integral part of the social, economic, political system of every country, including Greece. In the Greek centralized system of administration planning and decision-making are performed by the institutions of the higher grade in the educational pyramid and reflect the central authority’s will for the system’s way of function. The involvement of teachers in decision-making processes consists an important parameter in the management of a school unit and has been a topic of interest to researchers in recent years. It is directly linked to efforts been made aiming at the democratization of the workplace and the decentralization of the educational system’s administration. Enabling collective decision making, teachers have the opportunity to cooperate with principals on a basis of equality and power sharing. However, such a change in the school system may either facilitate or obstruct school functioning. These facts taken into account in the present thesis an attempt will be made to approach the function of the Teachers' Association in its day-to-day school administrative action as well as the educator’s perception of his/her role in school administration. Furthermore, the expectations of the teacher himself regarding the issue of participation in the decision-making and implementation process are going to be examined along with the level of satisfaction stemming from the degree of his involvement in this process, within the Greek educational system.
